Who we are
“Are we human, or are we dancer” from The Killers — is famously ambiguous, and that’s part of its power. It captures a tension between being autonomous, rational beings (“human”) and being shaped, choreographed, or constrained by forces outside our control (“dancer”).
Comments
In times of rapid change — pandemics, climate anxiety, political polarization — people often feel they’re reacting rather than acting. The lyric becomes a metaphor for that collective frustration: we want to be “human,” but reality keeps pushing us into the role of “dancer.”
